RCS has been singing fine choral music since 1964. Based in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx, it is a volunteer chorus, independent of any religious or educational institution. Members are a congenial group of people ranging from young adults to senior citizens: students, working people and retirees, singles and couples from diverse ethnic backgrounds. RCS numbers about 60 members, who come not only from Riverdale but also from other parts of the Bronx, Manhattan, and Westchester County.

After serving for ten and one half years as Music Director of the Riverdale Choral Society, Mimi S. Daitz has resigned from the position, and has been given the title of “Music Director Emerita,” in recognition of her many contributions to the growth and development of the chorus. RCS welcomes John Lettieri, our accompanist for eighteen years and guest conductor during the past season, as the full-time director beginning May, 2008. Mavis Pan, our accompanist for the Spring 2008 semester, will continue to play for us at rehearsals, and during concerts as needed.

RCS has a mission unique among New York City's choruses with high musical standards. It accepts members who have not yet learned to sight-read, if they demonstrate a good ear and a readiness to learn music. This has enabled adults who never developed sight-singing skills to participate in musical performance on a demanding level. At the same time, the membership includes very experienced choral singers, some with professional training.

Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings, 7:30-9:45 p.m. at Christ Church, Riverdale; 252nd Street and Henry Hudson Parkway East.
